Chinook Society of Recovering Addicts

Building Enhancement Project

The C.S.R.A. became the legal owners of the meeting hall located at 408 - 13 Street North in the spring of 2007, after renting the building for several years. The purchase of the building was made possible with the assistance of the Government of Alberta through the Alberta Lottery Foundation and their matching grant program.

CSRA Fund Raising Thermometer With the purchase complete, the Board of Directors have developed a Long Range Development Plan that includes a major renovation to the building.

The C.S.R.A. is currently in the process of applying for a matching grant program with the Government of Alberta. The anticipated cost of the renovation is $100,000, with the Society being responsible for $50,000 which can consist of cash, volunteers, and gifts in kind.

The C.S.R.A. has gratefully accepted the services of an architecture to assist with the development and approval process of the building plans. You may view the proposed plans below. These development plans are in the process of going through the approval process required by the City of Lethbridge.

The proposed renovation project will include bringing the building up to current building code requirements, including handicap accessible washrooms. The plans also include a system to improve the air circulation, a coffee counter, and a second meeting room developed on the main floor. Developing a second meeting room will allow additional recovery groups access to the building. The facility is currently used by Alcoholics Anonymous, Cocaine Anonymous, Gamblers Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous. There are currently 18 meetings held in the CSRA Meeting Hall each week and we have had to turn away groups due to a lack of availability and a lack of wheelchair accessibility.

Shown below are the prints of the proposed renovation. There are also pictures showing the current facility. The C.S.R.A. has begun the fund development process of raising $50,000 to be used as matching funds for this project. It is our hope that through corporate donations, fund raising events, and personal donations of cash and services we will have the funds available to start this project in the spring of 2008. This is also dependent on the success of our grant application, which we are confident we will receive, based on our communications with the City of Lethbridge and the MLA for Lethbridge - West.
